Yes, I know it has been a bit and yes, I know I didn't put the rest of my countdown spots on here. I doubt I'll get around to it at this point.

And now, a funny.

We have put the two girls together in one room. It has not gone well. Glory keeps getting up and going to Kalvary's bed, basically keeping them both wide awake into the night. I was spanking Glory every time she sat up. It was not working. So tonight I tried something a little more drastic. The first time Glory sat up, I took away the baby she sleeps with. She screamed bloody murder for about 3 minutes. Then I gave it back explaining to her that she needs to lay down and go to sleep and the next time, I would take her pacifier. This didn't work like I had hoped. Sure enough I ended up taking away her pacifier. She cried. I gave it back and said that next time I would take away both the nuk (pacifier) and the baby. I then had to make good on my threat. Each time she cries like the world is going to end, which also gets Kalvary all worked up. Then I ended up taking away, her nuk, baby and blanket. When I brought them back after another wretched bought of bawling, Kalvary apparently decided that I was giving Glory way to much attention and that she wanted some too. She begged me to take her puppy away. I said no, I would just spank her if she didn't lay down. She refused to lay down, so I spanked her. Then Glory thought I was going to take Kalvary's puppy (the spanking apparently didn't bother her) and started crying again and yelling "Don tak it! Don tak it!" Did I mention that this is the one week of the year when I need the most sleep? Sharathon drains every bit of energy and then I can't go to sleep because I can't get my girls to sleep... grr... Currently however, they seem to have settl.... Nope, nevermind, I hear Glory talking. Not sure what else I can take away, maybe her mattress.

So I really don't have great excuses for not posting except that I've been supper busy with IPS homework (Kris wants me to be finished before the baby comes), church work, and we have sharathon coming up in about 3 weeks at work. At the odd chance the someone is still checking my site, I figured I had better say something. I'm amazingly busy in the next couple of months with work (we have sharathon coming up, enough said), Church (busy planning a youth trip), classwork for RBC, and trying to be home with my family when I can. We do have that new baby coming in April. I have finally got an account on facebook and highly recommend it. Here is a picture of my family, yet again, drinking coffee.

We went out to Indiana for Christmas, and then when I came back this week I left my family there. Mostly for two reasons. The first one is New Years Eve. I always stay up all night with the youth, then have to crash on New years Day. Kris is then stuck with the Girls all day, even though I have the day off. The second reason is that I have homework to do for the Institute of Pastoral Studies program I'm in through Rosedale Bible College. I'm currently researching Pilgram Marpeck. I'll be writing a paper on him by Friday. I think my high school English teacher would be appalled at my research. grr...

The Christmas Post

Merry Christmas to one and all. Yesterday we had the extended miller Christmas, Today we had our little Christmas at home, tomorrow we'll have Christmas with My parents and siblings, and then on Tuesday we head to Indiana for Christmas with the Shirks. Our girls are both at really cool stages. Glory is very particular and already puts the markers that she just got away correctly with the tops on and up in the box. Wierd. I sure wouldn't do that. Kalvary just wants to climb all over me. Here is a picture or two of our little christmas.

I am one sad blogger. No post in over a month. So much for keeping a faithful readership. Let's see. What has happened this last month? The Buckeyes are going to the national championship. (whoohoo, now don't get demoralized like last time) I finished the first round of my RBC homework. I don't know when the last was when I had to write an 8 page semi scholarly paper. It wasn't all that bad, but I guess that is probably because I put together a sermon a month which is a little longer usually. We had thanksgiving with the Freeds in PA, and now we're gearing up for Christmas an all the busyness that entails. I'll try to get some more posts on here this week. I know, promises, promises. And here is a couple pictures of my fam.

Scratch that, after looking through our picture folder we have nothing current. Wow, I am a sad blogger.

We'll get to the title later. First off, thank you to those of you who commented on my last post, yes even you John. I was wondering if another reason that youth in our culture are worshipped is because of the simple principle of scarcity. It used to be that getting old was a real accomplishment. Most people didn't live long enough to be old. So the elderly were revered and treasured. Now the elderly is the fastest growing demographic. There are more elderly than youth, therefore each youth is treasured more because we have less of them. On to the title.

I don't consider myself handy around any house. I know enough to be dangerous to myself and others. Tonight a neighbor boy came to my house in a panic, because their power had blown. It was a windy evening, so I first check my street. It looked like everyone else had power. My first inclination was, here, use my phone and call your land lord. I know, I'm a pansy. I went over to their house to find that the problem was 3 blown breakers and a burned out light bulb. All stuff even I can fix. Needless to say, I'm feeling pretty happy with my self at the moment. It's time for my question.

We want to have upwards of 6 kids. In this culture that is considered weird. Is having more kids something to be praised, or is it irresponsible? Don't worry, we got thick skins. I got nothing funny for you tonight. Go stick your tongue out at yourself in the mirror if you want a laugh.

A New day and a new Question

Well, on my last post, which granted was a really long time ago, we seem to be agreed that we are fat because we are lazy, and we are lazy because we have lots of wealth and TV. To catch you up a bit. I made it through IPS, or at least the week of in Class work. Now I have 6 months worth of homework to do. Joy. I keep telling myself that I willingly chose to do this.

Some scary news that most of you already know. Since the last time I posted, my Dad was diagnosed with Colon cancer and he had surgery yesterday to remove a 3rd of his colon. If you want to keep up on him, there are regular updates here. My family has pretty much had the roughest year of our lives to date, what with mom, and now dad. The good news is, it seems that they probably caught it early enough, although we'll know more when we hear the pathology reports on Wednesday.

I'm supposed to preach Sunday and I was working on that for most of this evening, so this blogging is my reward before I hit the sack. Still have alot of work to go on that.

The Question for this week is sort of open ended and I have a few theories of my own. I preached at Shekinah's Chapel service last Wednesday, and I told them that it seems to me that our culture worships youth. My question is, Why does our culture worship Youth? I don't think it has always been this way, we used to revere age. Let me have it. If you think I'm wrong you can let me have that too.

And now something to laugh at. A string of jokes about Bacon.

Some of you may be wondering why I don't have pictures of my family on here more often. It's mostly because my wife steals the good ones. Thanks for the comments on my last voting question. In response.

Jared: I have tried the whole no shoes thing. My feet dry up, crack, bleed, and still itch. On top of that they hurt to bad to walk on. Prosthetics start sounding pretty good.

Joy: No Idea, but I'm picturing Shaun with red toe nails and I think it would be a good look for him.

Kara: Yeah, I know. Our genes have it out for us. I came to the conclusion a while ago that diabetes is probably in my future, but here's the thing. I think heart disease is a strong possibility as well. In an effort to avoid both, I would have to cut out sugar AND fat from my diet. I can do one, or the other, but both is HARD. Is it worth it? I could work my head off, run 3 times a week, go totally health nut on my food, and probably still not make it to 80. In the meantime I've wasted all this time and money, because, yes eating healthy is more expensive. Just compare the price of Vienna sausages to that of fresh veggies sometime. Is it worth the effort and dare I say it, the obsession it would take. Grrr. I have told Kris, I have the body and metabolism of a hunter/gatherer. Work hard all week with little food, when you manage to find something, gorge yourself. In today's world, you can manage to find something every minute of every day.

In reference to the title. This weekend is our annual church retreat. I'm looking forward to it. Especially the football game:). Next week is when I lose my mind, or maybe I've already lost it considering what I'm going to attempt. I'm going to take a week of classes at Rosedale as part of their IPS program, AND I'm planning to work all week. I don't want to take vacation time, and I want to do IPS. The good thing is I think I have figured out how to get the whole thing paid for. Otherwise I don't think I would chance it. Insanity, thy name is Freed.

Well, it seems that most people would least like to burn or drown, although my buddy Craig brought up the great point that in a plane crash you can do both. Me personally? I would rather drown than burn. I've heard that burning is extremely painful and if you drown, once you lose consciousness that's pretty much it. I'm sort of surprised that nobody choose other and got creative. :) You know, like, " I would least like to be stripped naked, dipped in honey, and fed alive to ants." Oh well. This next voting topic is mostly out of a life long struggle of mine.

What is the best way to get rid of Athletes foot?

1. Take the medicine at the store and it will go away.
2. Go to a doctor and get some extremely expensive medicine you have to take for half a year.
3. Soak your feet in Garlic twice daily
4. Eat Nuts (seriously, I heard some "expert" saying this.)
5. Remove your feet.

I've tried the first two and am seriously considering the 5th.

In other weirdness, my friend David has been keeping us all up to date on a local circus of a city council. I found the video of the latest incident he mentions. (warning, it is a little violent.)

A lot of my mental facilities at work are being taken up by an upcoming fundraiser for HD radio. For those of you who are unfamiliar HD radio is much clearer and crisper, allows us to have more the one channel, and will eventually be the only type of radio out there. All of your analog radio sets well, sooner or later, be obsolete. Probably later.

WEEC is going to have a one day fundraiser on September 13th to cover the costs of the new equipment. So I've been trying to make catchy Promos for it. You could here them on WEEC or here at your leisure.

A Camping Trip!!

The time has arrived. I'm taking the guys from our youth group camping. And I'm talking real camping. No sissy campgrounds for us. We are going to one of the guy's Dads property over in northeastern Ohio, near Amsterdam and New Philadelphia. We took toilet paper because there are no bathrooms. One evening we will only eat what we can catch and kill. (until we get really hungry and then we break out the leftovers) This could end up making really cool memories, you know like "hey remember that time we almost died from all the mosquito bites?" Or, "that was really cool that time when Cole had a tick the size of a golf ball" Hopefully we survive, and I bring pictures home.

I dislike being sick

I mean, who doesn't. This past week was the annual conservative mennonite conference, this time being held in Goshen, IN. I started feeling kind of scratchy on thursday, and by Friday I had a full blown cold. Over the weekend it developed into a sinus infection. I've never had one of these before and I'm hoping that this is the last time I do. You can read about the condition here. Basically, air pockets in your face and head get infected and fill up with mucus. My face hurts. I stuck it out for a while, but since it doesn't seem to be going away on it's own and your sinuses are also responsible for much of the resonance in your voice, I finally went to the doctor today. I have production I need to get done at the station and it would help if I could talk. It is also difficult for me to go to sleep. The Doctor kindly prescribed an antibiotic and a nasal decongestant. The latter also nicely tells me that I shouldn't drive or operate heavy machinery, at least till I know how it affects me. Um... I need to get to work tomorrow, so I'm going to be driving. Luckily I don't feel woozy yet.

Other than getting sick conference was fun, although whoevers idea it was not to provide Nursery care in the evenings and on Sunday morning should really reconsider for next year. It means that parents of young children might as well stay home.

Currently I am a seminar in Columbus that is supposed to teach me about the Microsoft Office product Excel. It is basically so that I can help the many people back at work who use excel. The problem is that I don't use excel. I wonder if maybe one of them should have come to the seminar instead. It has been rather informative and I do think it will be helpful. This is my lunch break, and the hotel has WI fi so I figured, "may as well update the blog". By the way, I found this really cool thing on google. If you have a Google ID, You can set up an rss reader to tell when your friends blogs update. It is awesome, I don't have to visit everyone's sites to see if they have updated. I may actually comment on some of them now. No promises.

It is just plain old hard for me to post on my blog anymore. I usually would rather read, am to tired, or my wife is working on her blogs. I also have many things to do around the house and if you know me at all, I am not handy. I can fix stuff... some of the time, and it better not be to complicated. In other words I don't have the knack, as this cartoon explains. (beware engineers, this cartoon is about you.)

Anyway, we have a drawer in our kitchen that the front is broken off of. This has happened so many times before that it isn't fixable. We really need new kitchen cabinets and counter tops, but that is so pricey. I feel I need to save up for my girls to get braces and married someday. I also have been having a steady war with our computer and Microsoft office 2003. Our old computer died. We buy a new computer. Works great. Except it will not let us reinstall our old version of office 2003. I've have made one arduous call to Microsoft and am planning another one tomorrow. The third issue is our phone. I don't even want to go into it. The crackles, buzzes and hums and plain ol unanswerable calls have been going on for months. I know if I call AT&T they will come out, say it is our problem, then charge us 120 $ for the visit. One good thing is that our problem toilet is now gone, replaced by the great guys at West Jeff Plumbing. Ohh.. If only I had the knack.

Yes... Yes I know. It has been a long time since I updated. I had a bit of a crazy couple of weeks, what with Mom's illness, as well as an unexpected illness in one of my coworkers families, that caused me to need to cover her shift. Not that I mind, but it took up more of my thought processes to keep stuff straight.

It has been several weeks on my low fat/low cholesterol Diet and I'm happy to say that I am down about 15 pounds. No Idea if my cholesterol is lower. I think I would be doing even better if I could figure out how to get some exercise in my schedule. Walking around Walmart with Glory on my back once a week just doesn't seem to cut it. Some bad news from the diet front.

Who knew, but french pressed coffee, while delicious, wonderful, and the best way to make the black brew, raises your bad cholesterol levels. I now own two french presses I can't use. Well, scratch that. I can use them... I just then have to run the coffee through a filter. You see, when you filter the coffee, it gets out the oils that raise your cholesterol. The coffee is still better than filtering alone, but it takes 15 minutes and I miss the grit.

Keep praying for mom.

Congratulations to Jared for hedging his bets with TWO definitions. :) And actually if you are driving and you are blindsided, well, that's just it. You were blindsided. So that is the word for that. No, ramsided is when you are hit, or rammed in the side, but you saw it coming. You just didn't have time to react.

In reference to the scream that is the title. I love computers. I really, really do, but the past 3 or so days make me want to be Amish (almost....OK, not really). First on Friday night, I'm thinking, "You know, maybe I ought to back up some of our data, its been awhile, oh well, maybe tomorrow". Saturday morning, the computer wont turn on. At all. So I figure it is the power source, go to micro center in Columbus, find an awesome deal on a power source for 5 bucks. I bring it home, plug it in... Nothing. Apparently the mother board didn't make it to mothers day. So today, after realizing that we just aren't complete without our electronic symbiont, Kris and I purchased a new computer. There are just a few problems. It has Vista, which although I don't like the look of it, hasn't been too horrible yet. I just have to do some searching to find things that I could find almost automatically in XP, and the PC, Mac commercials are somewhat true. ("MAC has issued a salutation, Allow or Deny?)
Secondly, I wanted to install the hard drive from my old computer so I could get the data off of it. After a long painful process, that I don't want to go through the pains of telling(I don't want to get tears on the new keyboard) I come to the conclusion, that I can't without an adapter of some sort, which Jeff told me was the case, but the sales guy at Best buy assured me that I would not need. I also wanted to reinstall our version of Microsoft Office 2003. I call Jeff to get the software key, since it was part of a package that our Church had purchased. I enter it, It tells me that it is not a valid Key. I call Jeff back, we confirm that I wrote down exactly what he said, he then gives me another key. No dice with that one either. Apparently I am going to have to call them tomorrow, and hopefully convince them with the old key, that I am not trying to steal the software, but really own a valid copy. *Beats head against WALL*

But really... I love computers.

Busy weekend. I got up at 530am on Saturday to finish my sermon in time to do stuff with family, then on Sunday, I got up at 5 to put together a program for WEEC that I can usually do on Friday. If the company that produces it doesn't have it ready in time, then I have to do it Sunday morning, and I wanted to practice my sermon a few times. The Sermon went well, actually the entire Sunday service was very good. Sunday afternoon, Kris and I went to visit mom. I had been feeling queasy all morning, but just figured I would tough it out. I spent about 5 minutes with Mom when I decide, "Yep, I'm sick", and that I shouldn't be in the presence of someone sicker who certainly didn't need my bug on top of her troubles. I spent the rest of the visit in the bathroom and the waiting room. I didn't go to work today, still running a fever and having stomach issues, although by tonight I am feeling a little better. Going to try to go to work tomorrow. I think I slept 5 hours during the day today and am still feeling tremendously tired. Grrr.

Oh, I had my check up with the Doctor today to see how my liver and gall bladder ultrasound went. He asked if I had ever had mono. I replied that I don't remember having it, but the LAST time they checked my liver for this very problem(high liver enzymes) they told me that I had had mono at some point. He said, that explains it, you have some fatty deposits on your liver and you have had mono, that is why you have high liver enzymes. So... basically the same thing they figured out before. Doesn't seem to be a problem. He is also going to give me two months to bring down my cholesterol. 247 isn't high is it? :) I have already cut fat out of my diet as of two weeks ago. I think he doesn't want to proscribe cholesterol lowering drugs since they can damage your liver, and my liver already has problems. I don't want drugs either, since I don't want to have to bother taking them. Thanks for the prayers for Mom and keep them coming.

I drove to PA on Friday, stayed the night with my cousins Andrea and Steve. Thanks by the way, it was a fun evening and a thousand times better than sleeping in the van. Then yesterday, I attended my aunt Elsie's funeral. It was sort of surreal in that the last time I saw Elsie, she had been in good health. I had gotten the emails that she was sick, but always figured that she would pull through. So it was sort of a shock to hear of her passing. I glad I went. I wanted to go and it also freed Dad up to feel ok about not going. After the Funeral I drove home. I like to drive so it was an enjoyable trip, it went by very fast.

This afternoon Kris and I got to go and spend an hour with Mom. It was good to be with her, but disheartening. She can barely respond to us and only opened her eyes once for a second. She did squeeze my hand once, when we asked her too. She has tubes coming out all over her. I just pray that she heals and comes back to us whole. Thanks for all of your prayers and please keep them coming. It is going to be difficult to focus my mind on work this week. Make sure to pray for Kara and Marcus as well as Brenda. They seem to be baring the brunt of this, with Kara's nursing knowledge coming in very handy, and of course Marcus is stretched very thin.

The diagnosis

So we have the diagnosis. Herpes encephalitis. It's nasty, but can be treated. Hopefully we've caught it early enough. It is also contagious, so we have contacted our doctors to see if there is anything we need to do. Keep praying, for a full recovery for mom, and that nobody else gets it.

What a day...

Not the best day in the world. For those of you who don't know, my Mom (Brenda Freed) is pretty sick and at Madison County Hospital. She had a high fever most of last week and started throwing up on the weekend. Sunday morning they finally went into the hospital. She started having dementia at the time to, just little things at first, but she is now to the point where she can't remember us. We are not totally sure what is going on. She seems to have a slight urinary track infection, but that shouldn't cause this much dementia. The Doctor wanted to do a spinal tap to check on her brain, but she was uncooperative, so they have put that off until tomorrow. Second thing that happened is that my Aunt Elsie out in Pennsylvania died. We had known that she was sick for awhile now, but I didn't really think that she would go.

Last and really least, I went back to the Doctor to get results from my 30 year physical. He said that I have some abnormally high liver enzymes, so tomorrow I am going in for a ultrasound of my Liver and gall bladder. Not looking forward to it. Oh and I have high cholesterol, so it is time for a change in diet to boot. I had to take the family and head to Springfield this evening so I could voice my air shift for tomorrow at WEEC. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

I wouldn't blame you if you weren't. Not a whole lot of action going on. So... Yesterday I went in to get a physical. We figured that since I just turned 30 in January that it would be a good time to make sure that everything was hunky dory. It appears to be, although I wont get the results of the body fluid tests until Monday. What I think is fun is that I made the connection that my doctor's brother is my mechanic. My Doctor is Dr. Khan, and I get my cars fixed at Khan's Auto repair. It's just a little bizarre. One fixes my car, the other fixes me. They both seem highly competent.

Glory is having fun trying to walk. She can get pretty far before she forgets herself and topples over. She will also nod her head yes to any question. It can be "are you hungry?" or "Are you purple?" and she will always nod her head up and down. Very cute.

One Crazy Evening

It started out like any other evening, but then things changed. I had been left home with the girls and Kris went to aerobics. When she came home through the door, she said, "We have Company." It was a little 7 year old neighborhood boy. She had found him crying on the corner. He said that he had been left all by himself with no supper. He was beside himself and scared.
I cooked him a grilled cheese sandwich and the plan was that I would take a note down to his house informing his parents where he was. He went with me. On the way, I had a bad feeling that this was a straight up not good situation. When we got there, lights were on, I could hear the television, but when I yelled, no one answered. Then some boys across the street yelled that Terry could stay with them. He and I walked over there. I talked to their mother and she informed me that she had been taking care of Terry for the past several nights. Unsolicited. I left Terry there and walked back home. Still worried, I called my Dad who is the Middle School guidance counselor. The more I talked with him, the more serious the situation came to seem. A 7 year old, left all by himself. I finally decided that, and he agreed, that I need to call the police. I didn't want to have the police show up at the neighbors who had him, so I walked down there, talked some more with her. She agreed that I should call Children's services, and so I took Terry back with me to our house again and called the police. They came and I went with him to the station. I ended up giving my story to the Child services worker who came about a half hour later. At the end, I could hear his parents yelling in the lobby that they had a right to their kid, and telling their story. Apparently, he had been left with his two older brothers who had then ditched him. They also said that they had talked to the neighbor who had taken care of him over the weekend it that it was OK that he stay with her. The officer with us in the back said that I had better leave through the back door. He also said that I had done the right thing. No matter what the problem was this evening, this family needed child services to be watching things.
So now, I'm pretty sure we have some neighbors upset with us. Although looking back I'm not sure that there is anything that I would have done differently. I may go down to his house in the next couple of days and try to talk to his parents, but I feel quite a bit nervous about that. Please pray that they are understanding. Also pray that this little guys situation would improve. His life seems to have been totally wretched.

My back hurts. Not specifically my back, but my lower right hand side in my back right above my gluteous maximus. The pain sometimes spreads to the front. It is very similar to when I hurt my self when I went camping 5-6 months ago. Except I can't figure out when it happened. Saturday morning it just started to hurt. The hypochondriac in me is pretty sure I'm going to die in the next couple of days. The macho tough guy in me is going to go work as usual and assume that it will go away. We'll see which one is right. I don't really have a whole lot to say, mostly because it is hurting to sit here, but welcome to my brother and sister in law who have just gotten a blog of their very own.

You would think that I had forgotten about this little page of mine. Frankly, I'm busier than I have been in a long time. At least it feels that way. I'm tired today too, since I had to go in and do the morning show at WEEC this morning. I'm not looking forward to doing it again tomorrow. At least the getting up part. The morning show is kind off fun, and I can then come home by two. The show starts at 6 and I feel I need to be there by 5 to be acclimated enough by 6 to do a decent job. We live 35 minutes from the station, so yep, that's getting up at 4. I don't think I would have minded it so much except I woke up at 2 and then couldn't sleep till 4, just anxious about the day and show. To make things fun for tomorrow morning, we have a winter storm blowing through tonight. Hopefully it wont take me too long to get to work.

So, this evening, we went to Columbus for Kris's yearly haircut. She waits until she has a long enough "crop", then she goes and gets it cut and donated to locks of love. Many high class salons will give you a free haircut if you do this and she would do it anyway. Today she went to Charles Penzone hair salon in Columbus, and got a pretty cool haircut for basically free. She did tip, but not leaving a tip is generally criminal in our opinion. Then we went to old navy. Near old navy was a Great Clips. I needed a hair cut so Kris sent me over there while she shopped at Old Navy.
I told the guy what I wanted and he started to cut. About half way into it he seemed to notice that he had cut to much off the top and so he tried to fix it... and failed miserably. I don't remember when I had a worse haircut. Of course, I'm too embarrassed to say anything about it so I paid him, and tipped him, and left. I was hoping it was just me, but when I got back to Kris, my fears were confirmed. She said, "Hmm, that's a really bad haircut." So. I'm wondering around old navy with Kalvary and Glory, looking like some loser who cuts his own hair, thinks he's good at it, and isn't. After that we drove to another Old Navy. Kris has a gift card and Old Navy is having sales, so we have to stop at as many as possible. Anyway, there was a great clips next to this Old navy too. Kris convinces me to take my receipt from the first great clips into this one and see if they will fix it for free. I'm mortified. I do it anyway. I was going to bash Great Clips, but now I must commend them. At least the one on Rome Hillard Rd in Columbus. They fixed my hair mostly, and didn't charge me a cent. They also got a bigger tip than the previous guy, about the maximum I would give for a haircut. I know this story is really riveting, but I hope someone gets some enjoyment out of it.

Big Day

Today was big day to say the least. Today Rob and I were ordained at LCF, and Reuben was installed as an associate pastor as well. I guess I wasn't expecting just how formal it was going to feel. I should have, Kris made me wear a tie :). It was a humbling and rewarding experience, I was actually tongue tied when it came time for me to speak.

After Church a group of people went to my parents house and we had a 30th birthday party for me. Kris planned it, and everyone brought food in. A total of 5 settlers games were played, I won managed to win two. Glory has started to "Talk". If you grunt at her, she sometimes grunts back and has a conversation with you. Here is the video that comes closes to portraying this. I took close to ten of them, and she just wouldn't cooperate.

Mostly because of busyiness and travel capped off by this past weekend where we had a youth fundraiser on saturday, followed by a Sunday where I preached and then stayed up all night with the youth. Kalvary Quotes

Kalvary is a trip. We were driving the other night to go Christmas and Birthday shopping for Kris. I switched the channel over to the station I work for 100.7 WEEC. They were replaying our 45th Anniversary Special and I was just checking to make sure it was playing, since they had had some problems getting it to start earlier. Anyway, Kalvary yells from the back seat, "No Daddy, Sunny 95!! For those of you from the Columbus area, Sunny 95 plays a mix of Christmas music that we enjoy and WEEC doesn't play music all the time. Well apparently Kalvary prefers their mix.

The other good one was when I was just singing in the Van one of the Christmas songs we had heard on Sunny 95, I sang the line "Simply havin" and Kalvary finished it from the back seat, "a wonderful Christmas time" That Girl is getting too smart for her britches. We have our Freed Christmas on Saturday and our Shirk Christmas on Monday. We just had our own little Christmas this past Saturday. Last night was the Weec Christmas banquet. It was quite enjoyable. We took Kalvary and Glory and they were both very cute. The food was catered by Rudys smokehouse barbecue in Springfield and was very, very, good. Two things happened of note. The first is concerns the evening entertainment. He was an excellent concert Pianist named Steve Banks. He was playing Christmas songs and everyone was sort of singing along. Well, Kalvary joined in, very audibly on Silver Bells. I didn't know where she picked up the tune but she knew it and the words. When he finished he leaned in her direction and said, Hey, I could hear you better than anyone else." She looked very cute and just nodded.

The other thing that happened is that Kalvary and I almost burned WEEC studios to the ground. Ok, I'm exaggerating a little. We were singing carols and when we were done, one of us, and I think it was Kalvary, laid the song booklet back on the table. It just happened to be on top of the the candle and went up like it was doused in Kerosene. I grabbed it and was about to toss it on the floor and stomp on it, but I then realized that that would leave a black mark and would make the event even more memorable. ("Hey where did that black mark come from?" "Well, this guy named Ryan Freed used to work here.") I ended up blowing it out. It took some serious air and spread soot all over Kalvary and I.

Our daughter Glory thinks just about everything that moves erraticaly is funny. Here is she, laughing at me through toys in the air.

This morning, Kalvary and I drove to walmart to get the oil changed in my car. It was a fun little treck for father and daughter. She still remembers when Mommy drove Daddy's car, a stick shift. So when I put her in, she said that she didn't want to go "bumpy"... Hilarious.

I keep thinking that I am going to get around to doing a substantial post, where I solve all of lifes mystery's and take over the world in one fell swoop, but I just can't seem to get around to it. Oh well. We had an enjoyable weekend with Uncle Benj, who came out to visit his nieces. Here is a Video of him and Glory.

I've been busy. The Weekend went well except we didn't get the Tower put up for WCYC in London. The Construction company couldn't do it so we are rescheduled for the 11th. Hope it works out then. I was just reading this site, and it reminded me of something Kalvary was doing this evening. The youth group was providing some free babysitting tonight and Kalvary was with us. The kids were blowing bubbles, and she had one of those little pipe things that never really work. Only she wasn't blowing bubbles. She had somehow got the idea that she was supposed to drink it. So she kept downing swallowfulls of bubblestuff and grimacing, before getting some more and downing it too. Probably tasted nasty, but she continued to drink it. I tried to explain to her that she was supposed to blow bubbles, but she replied, "I don't really like it." At this point I took the pipe from her and we went off to do something else.

So, you might have noticed that I've had very little to say of late. I think I am using my brain power, what little there is, elsewhere. By the time I get to a point where I have time to blog, I no longer have the energy.

Work is going well. To my production responsibilities have been added the responsibilities of in house computer guy. I tell people that I am more lucky than good, but they keep coming to me with problems that I randomly know how to fix. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving my Job. Thank you God.

Kris's parents finally couldn't stand it anymore and had to come see us. Well, actually, I think they want to see our kids more, but we are extremely happy to have them here for a couple of days.

I preach Sunday, and would appreciate prayers. It is rare that I don't have some idea of what I'm going to speak on at this point.

I'm not really that handy. I know how to use most tools, but it is not fun for me. Our garbage disposal is broke. I was decently proud of myself that I was able to disconnect it from the sink and take off the top and look inside, gross, by the way. The only problem that I could find in there was that it has a rust problem... oh and someone put peas in there after it had stopped working. My gut would be to just go buy a new one that works. Of course then I would have to install it, with my little helper. Check out all the comments my wife got on her post on why she doesn't like it when people don't leave comments. Leave a comment;). That one picture is a youth member who probably wants to remain incognito and Glory, asleep. She rarely falls asleep when someone is holding her.

New Job

My job is going swimmingly. This past week I actually solved a problem they had been having with their software for weeks. As I keep saying. It sure beats working for a living. Congratulations Joy. By the way, drop me a note to let me know which Joy you are. The usual suspect, my sister in Law, has denied that it is her. It definitely is an Iron Furnace. Check out these pictures of a similar furnace. I am pretty sure the pictures I have are of Union Furnace. You can read about it here and here and was built in, get this, 1790. That makes it 217 years old. Although reading this site makes me confused and wonder which one we actually found. Apparently there were twenty of them in Fayette county pa. It might actually be the New Laurel Furnace. Shaun, if you read this, you know the directions in the area better, maybe you could pinpoint the right furnace.

The Camping trip.

Jared, Shaun, John, Cole and I went real men's camping this weekend. Almost. We did drive to a place that we know of, that we affectionately call "blue hole" that is not a real campground or site. It really is camping out in the woods. No bathrooms or electric outlet. I had originally planned for one meal to be an "only eat what you can catch, kill and gather." However, I hurt my back on Saturday and since I was planning to be the main one catching, killing and gathering, I am really happy that Jared brought lots and lots of hot dogs and Italian sausages. Smart man. My lower back still twinges every so often especially when I stand up. We still had fun and saw cool stuff. Blue hole is near Dunbar PA and it is basically a mountain pool fed by a stream where you can slide off of a natural water fall, or even jump off a 30 ft cliff into the pool. Straight up cool. One thing that was puzzling is that we went and looked at an old stone structure that Shaun had found before. We have no Idea what it could be except for some fairly wild guesses. My pictures aren't great, but I would be interested to see if anyone knew what this was. We are guessing that it is really old. You can see more camping pictures here.

First Week

So, surprise, surprise, but working again means less blogging time. Sorry for this weeks lack of updates. I am really enjoying my job. It is challenging and I have by no means mastered it. I still haven't been trained on the board yet, but that's alright as in most of the staff have been a little tied up with a change in the format. Now it wasn't a complete format change, but they refreshed their sound by deleting many old songs and just playing their best. They also purchased a professional sounding jingle package. You can hear the General Manager, Tracy Figley talking about the refreshing here at their revamped website. I plan at some point to take some pictures at work at put them on here, but I first need to remember to bring the camera to work.

Tomorrow, the troupe the did the drama at conference "Inside the mind" will be performing that same drama at Agape Community Fellowship in Hillard. I think this will most likely be the last time we do it.

Another note. I took my Dodge shadow in to get the oil changed. It has been over a year, mostly because I haven't driven 3000 miles in that year, but since I will be driving it 60 miles a day from now on, I figured I'd better do it. Good thing too, since it turns out my tires are all so bald that they refused to rotate them stating Ohio law. We went back and got new tires tonight. It is disconcerting when you pay more for tires than the trade in value on your car.

First Day On Job

So today was my first day. My head is sort of in a blur. It may take me a week or two to totally get into the swing of things. I am being trained by the previous production manager, Chris Grindrod, a genuinely nice fellow. I was humbled a little bit when I was working on a bit of production when I realized that their version of the software that I had said I knew so well was a few updates ahead of what I had been working on. I am confident that I can figure out any changes, but it was a little annoying to look like I might not know what I was doing. It is different not being the boss anymore as well. I trust I can adjust. It does seem to be an enjoyable, rewarding place to work.

After 3 months of uncertainty, Ryan finally has a Job. More than that it is the job I wanted and feel I can do well at. I am now the production director at WEEC in Springfield and will be starting next week on monday. Needless to say, I am pumped and God is faithful!! We are going to go celebrate. I'm not sure what we are going to do, but it probably is going to involve Graeters Ice Cream.

Job update: It baffles my mind what I did the other day. I actually turned down a job. Shekinah had to know by Saturday. If you had told me I would do that three weeks ago, I would have laughed at you. I'm a little sad about it, since it appears that they really, really wanted me too. I believe, however, that WEEC will be the better position. I still haven't heard definitively from them yet, although all evidence is really positive. You know that I will let you know when I know.

A Job offer

First things first, thank you Deb and Nate for hearing my cry and rescuing me, my cup of coffee this morning was tremendous.

Yes, I have had a job offer. Shekinah Christian School has offered me a 6th grade teaching postion for this coming year, starting with staff orientation on Monday. That's right, Monday. I have to let them know tommorrow. I have called WEEC and left a message. I want to ask them if they for sure are planning to hire me. If they are I will have to make a decision. Prayers are still welcome!! All of the jobs have good things going for them. If WEEC is going to offer me the production director job, the decision is easy. If the other one, it gets more complicated. If neither, than I will for sure be working for Shekinah starting monday. The nice thing is that I will have a job very shortly.

The Interview

It went very will. I had it with Tracy Figley, which if you have listened to WEEC at all you know that he has been there a while. It lasted 45 Minutes and was quite enjoyable. The kicker was at the end when I asked him what their time frame was. He replied that he wanted to have this all cleared up by the beginning of September. I asked if there was any chance of it being sooner than that as Shekinah starts next week. I told him I would prefer to work in radio and that I would basically need to know if they were going to pass on me. He said and I quote, "Oh, I can tell you right now that we are not going to pass on you." I thought that was rather promising. So it may be a question of which job I get, and not whether I get a job. That being said, I know that he has interviews on Friday, and if he would have two great new candidates he might change his mind. Keep praying. Its not done yet.

Well, you can start praying. It turns out that WEEC in Springfield has two positions open that I believe I qualify for. I have an interview on Tuesday. I still haven't heard anything from Shekinah. Yesterday I worked 13 hours for Jeff Helmuth. The guy from our church who does countertops. That was a long day. Today, however, I'm home and we took the whole family into the health department to get our pictures taken. This is Breast feeding awareness month and they held a essay contest for breast feeding mothers. Kris didn't want to do it, but I said, "Enter, you'll win." So she did. We got a 50 $ gift certificate to Walmart. It's not much, but still nothing to sneeze at. Here is the picture that is going to be in the paper with her essay. I'll see if I can post of copy of it as well. Kris wrote it out instead of typing it, so I may have to copy it from the paper.
